Mara business headshotWelcome to the first issue of  theBEAT, our quarterly online newsletter that offers a quick snapshot of Emerge PR's recent accomplishments and the industry's latest buzz. We had quite a year, kicking it off with the $350 million acquisition of our client Cartesis by Business Objects! We had new client wins in the consumer, security and mobile/wireless markets and saw continued success with software companies, which remain our core competency.

Naked Conversations: A Review by Michael Quinn
naked conversations In their book, Naked Conversations: How Blogs Are Changing the Way Businesses Talk with Customers, Robert Scoble and Shel Israel predict that the company blog will revolutionize the marketing and public relations industries, rendering obsolete the centralized "command and control" style they see as the current  business communications model as a new school of "listen and participate" supplants it. Just as the automobile's rise signaled the demise of the blacksmith trade, they argue, so will the "incumbent school" of marketing and PR departments shrink in importance as company employees become their own spokespersons. By engaging with customers in a voice at once more "authentic" and "transparent" than that supposed to be filtered through a media relations division, Scoble and Israel continue, these new spokespeople will breed credibility, enthusiasm and customer evangelism for their company.

Karyn Martin, Senior Account Executive, Emerge PR

You're in a pinch, you need to quickly dive deep into a new market. You need to go to Yahoo! Mindset. This "intent driven search engine" saves you valuable time by allowing you to influence the type of search results returned.  Enter your search terms, then slide the "mindset" bar based on whether you want commercial or more academic results. The page listings returned reflect your needs, unlike other search engines that would have you spend countless hours weeding through pages of search results (driven by advertisers) trying to sell you something. Maybe you want to be bombarded by a listing of all the places you can buy deeply discounted BPM software? Maybe not. At least this way you can choose!
